I finally saw Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and adored it; I’ve been listening to the soundtrack ever since, especially Alexandre Desplat’s The Heroic Weather-Conditions of the Universe songs (my favourites are Part 7 and Parts 4 & 6) and Leonard Berstein’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. Last June I fell in love with 8tracks, then never used it again, so the other day I made a new playlist with a couple songs from the soundtrack on it (+ a couple that have nothing to do with the soundtrack). It’s fun to look at what songs I was listening to at this time last year; I remember being completely obsessed with The National (they are still my favourite). Summer is the season that always makes me the most nostalgic—not in a sad way, but just as though my memory becomes mysteriously overactive, and I get so many flashbacks of every other summer.
For half my life this season has always meant Harry Potter to me; it’s been so long since a summer without a book or a film or both (in the case of the Order of the Phoenix film and Deathly Hallows book, summer 2007—so many memories!) being released, and I feel a little lost without it. Last summer I couldn’t wait until the 31st of July to do the Pottermore Magic Quill contest. I nearly cried tears of joy when I was sorted into Gryffindor. Anyway. . .
